Fast forward to fatherhood at our fertility clinic
When you or your partner experience male infertility, you want answers and prompt results. Success-driven reproductive endocrinologists direct our fertility clinic, providing comprehensive male fertility exams. If you are concerned about male infertility or suffer from erectile dysfunction, our fertility clinic can find a solution.
Identifying the causes of male infertility will involve semen analysis as well as a physical exam. The information we glean from semen analysis reports can pinpoint the exact cause of male infertility, whether that is poor sperm motility or a very low sperm count. Tulsa Infertility Center is one of the few in the Bentonville and Joplin areas that offers complete care for male infertility, with access to in-house andrology laboratory services, directed by J. Kevin Thibodeaux, Ph.D.
A three tiered approach to male infertility treatment
Your health history may raise red flags that will direct the diagnostic process. For instance, enlarged veins in the scrotal area (varicocele) may contribute to low sperm production and male infertility. Dr Shauna McKinney will also ask about lifestyle and habits that interfere with your ability to conceive.
- Do you habitually smoke cigarettes?
- Does your workplace expose you to toxic chemicals or elevated temperatures?
- Are you a long distance runner or cycler?
- Have you been treated for Low T?
- Does your BMI fall above or below the normal range?
Most fertility clinics encounter men and women who recognize the benefits of protecting their health and wellness. However, many seemingly innocuous habits, like regular visits to the steam room, have proven to directly contribute to male infertility. The good news is that simple lifestyle changes can often make a tremendous difference in your fertility potential.
More about Low T
Levels of the sex hormone testosterone diminish by about 1 percent a year after age 30. In most cases, the gradual decline does not lead to symptoms or diminished fertility. Some men find that the troublesome symptoms of fatigue, and a reduced sex drive warrant testosterone replacement treatment. Ironically, the “Low T” treatments on the market can actually contribute to a low sperm count.
Our fertility clinic recommends that men actively trying to achieve pregnancy should avoid using Low T patches, gels or injections.
What semen analysis can reveal about male infertility
Our fertility center coordinates the semen analysis process, from collection point to results reports. Our male fertility specialists will study the results, paying close attention to the following hallmarks of male factor infertility.
- Low Sperm Count
- Poor Sperm Motility (mobility)
- Abnormal Sperm Morphology
Recommendations for Next Steps
Now that the results of your physical exam, semen analysis and health history have painted a complete picture, Dr. McKinney will either recommend moving forward with treatment options such as intrauterine insemination and in vitro fertilization or suggest sperm harvesting or epididymal aspiration.
